Mission - Love in a Shoebox

Love in a Shoebox is an arm of Samaritans Purse, Operation Christmas Child.  St. John’s parish has been a part of this wonderful ministry since 1997.  We have sent thousands of boxes to South East Asia, the South Pacific and Australia filled with necessaties and some fun items.  Each of our boxes has a colouring book/exercise book, colouring pencils, eraser, sharpener, washer, soap, toothbrush, tennis ball, toy (boy or girl & age appropriate), clothing (boy or girl & age appropriate), and of course a cuddly toy.  The age groups are Girl/Boy 2-4 years; 5-9 years; 12-14 years.

Our parishioners, bring items in during the course of the whole year, and various volunteers cover each and every box in coloured Christmas paper.  They are then packed, labelled, a rubber band is placed around the box and then placed into cartons which are clearly named.  These boxes are packaged ready for their rail journey to Brisbane early in October.  Each shoebox costs $9 to send from Hervey Bay to its final destination.

It’s all about putting a smile on the face of a child!!

If you think you can be of assistance with this ministry, please give Dee Smith, our Office Administrator a call on 41241499 and she will be more than happy to let you know how you can help.
